SwitchBot
The SwitchBot Blind Tilt is the easiest way to make your existing horizontal blinds smart. No replacement needed — just clip on, pair with a Hub 2, and you have Matter-enabled blinds that work with every major ecosystem. Best retrofit option on the market.
SwitchBot
The SwitchBot Curtain 3 is the gold standard for retrofitting existing curtains with smart motor control. Thread connectivity via Hub 2 gives you Matter support across all ecosystems, and the QuietDrift mode makes it perfect for bedrooms.
Zemismart
Zemismart's Thread-based roller shade motor is one of the few that connects to Matter directly without a proprietary hub. At under $70, it's excellent value for Thread-native blind control with broad ecosystem support.
Zemismart
If you're doing a fresh curtain installation or renovation, Zemismart's motor + track combo is the way to go. Direct Thread connectivity means no extra hub, and the included track makes for a clean, professional look.
MOES / Tuya
MOES delivers a solid Thread-native roller blinds motor at an attractive price. If you're already in the Tuya ecosystem, this integrates naturally while also working as a standalone Matter device with any platform.
Zemismart
The solar-powered version of Zemismart's roller shade motor is the set-it-and-forget-it option. Higher upfront cost, but you'll never have to remove and recharge the motor. Perfect for hard-to-reach windows.
Zemismart
The MTP1 is Zemismart's premium driver offering, sitting between the budget and solar options. It's a solid choice if you want certified Matter Thread connectivity with a reliable, compact motor for standard roller shades.
Retrofit motors (SwitchBot Blind Tilt, Zemismart roller motors) attach to your existing blinds or shades — no new window coverings needed. They're cheaper and easier to install. Full replacement options (track + motor combos) give a cleaner look but require more installation effort and cost more upfront.
Thread is the preferred protocol for battery-powered blinds motors — it's low-power and creates a mesh network for reliability. Most Matter blinds motors use Thread. Wi-Fi options exist but drain batteries faster. If going Wi-Fi, look for a solar panel option or wired power.
Some motors connect directly to Matter via Thread (Zemismart, MOES) — no proprietary hub needed, just a Thread border router (Apple TV 4K, HomePod Mini, or similar). Others like SwitchBot require their Hub 2 to bridge to Matter. Factor in hub cost if you don't already have one.
Most roller shade motors are designed for 38mm (1.5") tubes — the most common standard. Some support 25mm or 28mm tubes for lighter shades. Measure your existing shade tube before ordering, or you'll need adapters.
Built-in battery (most common) — USB-C rechargeable, lasts 3-6 months per charge. Solar panel — costs more upfront but eliminates recharging. Wired — permanent power but requires running cables. For hard-to-reach windows, solar is worth the premium.
